Highest Team Score in WPL 2023: After the massive success of the Indian Premier League, BCCI decided to start the Women’s IPL and named it the Women’s Premier League. The inaugural edition of WPL is on 4 March 2023 with the first match between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Giants.
We have seen a huge craze about the women’s premier league among the fans. This also gives Women’s cricket more exposure, also beneficial for the domestic Indian players to show their talent on an international level.
In the first-ever season of WPL, there are only five franchises participating; Gujarat Giants, Delhi Capitals, UP Warriorz, Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore. But we can expect more franchises to come and join the league in upcoming seasons. Also, all 22 matches of the league will be conducted on two grounds in Mumbai; DY Patil Stadium and Brabourne Stadium but we can expect more grounds to be added to the tournament in upcoming seasons.
The format of the Women’s Premier League is the same as Indian Premier League, each team will compete with other teams twice. When a team win a match, they get two points and their position moves up in the points table. The table’s topper team will be qualified for the finals directly whereas, the second and third-position teams will play the Eliminator match.
The winning team in the Eliminator match will play the final match against the table-topper team which is already qualified for the final match. WPL 2023 final match will be played on 26 March 2023 at DY Patil Stadium.
All the matches will be live telecasted on the Sports18 TV channel and live streaming will be provided by the JioCinema in multiple languages. Viacom18 has acquired the broadcasting rights of the Women’s Premier League for the next five seasons from 2023 to 2027.
We have seen some great performances by individual players as well as franchises. In the opening match itself, Mumbai Indians sat a giant total of 207 runs on the board and registered their win by 143 runs margin.
