IPL 2023: KKR Signed Jason Roy as a Replacement for Shreyas Iyer

IPL KKR Signed Jason Roy as Replacement of Shreyas Iyer: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have signed England’s Jason Roy as a replacement for their captain, Shreyas Iyer, for the remainder of the IPL 2023 tournament. The decision comes after Iyer suffered a lower back injury that ruled him out of the tournament, as well as the upcoming ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 Final against Australia.

Although KKR has not made an official announcement yet, IPL officials have confirmed that Roy will join the team soon. Interestingly, KKR has signed the explosive right-handed batter for INR 2.8 Crores, which is higher than his base price of INR 1.5 Crores.

Roy has previously played for KKR, Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Lions, and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL. However, his overall stats in the tournament are underwhelming, with just 329 runs in 13 matches at an average of 29.90 and a strike rate of 129.01.

Despite his previous IPL performance, KKR will be hoping that Roy can replicate his T20I form for England, where he has scored over 1500 runs in 64 matches at a strike rate of 137.61, including 8 half-centuries. Roy’s inclusion in the team will undoubtedly add firepower to KKR’s batting line-up, which has struggled to perform consistently in the tournament so far.

In another setback for KKR, Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib al Hasan has opted out of the IPL 2023 for undisclosed reasons. This news comes after KKR’s loss to Punjab Kings in their opening fixture of the tournament, where they fell seven runs short in the rain-marred contest.

KKR’s next match is against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at Eden Gardens on 6th April 2023. The KKR fans will be eager to see how Roy performs for the team and whether he can help turn their fortunes around in the tournament.
