IPL Winners List From 2008 to 2022: Indian Premier League is the most loved and followed cricket league in the World. This tournament is conducted by the BCCI every year, worlds top players come from different countries to participate in this league.

There are usually eight teams in the IPL but in the previous season, we have seen two new teams; Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants added by the BCCI. And one of these two new teams; Gujarat Titans won the trophy in the IPL 2022 Final at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

IPL 2008: Winner Rajasthan Royals

The first edition of the Indian Premier League was won by the Shane Warne led-Rajasthan Royals, the season started on April 18, 2008, with the first match between Royal Challengers Bangalore vs Kolkata Knight Riders. It was the match when Brendon McCullum played an excellent inning of 158 runs in 73 balls not out.

This became the highest individual score in IPL history but later broke by Chris Gayle, he scored 175 runs in just 66 balls against Pune Warriors in IPL 2013.

In IPL 2008, Rajasthan Royals won 11 matches out of 14 total matches played by the team. The final match was played between Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings where RR won the toss and elected to field first. CSK set the target of 164 on the board after losing 5 wickets, Suresh Raina scored 43 runs in 30 balls, Parthiv Patel 38 runs in 33 balls and MS Dhoni 29 runs in 17 balls. These three top innings from the CSK side helped the team to reach this total.

In response, Rajasthan Royals chased the total in 20 overs after losing 7 wickets. Yusuf Pathan played an excellent inning of 56 runs in 39 balls, Shane Watson 28 runs in 19 balls and Swapnil Asnodkar 28 runs in 20 balls that helped RR to reach the target set by CSK.

Rajasthan Royal defeated Chennai Super Kings by 3 wickets and won the IPL 2008 trophy in DY Patil Stadium on June 1, 2008.

IPL 2009: Winner Deccan Chargers

IPL Season 2009 was started on April 18, 2009, the first match of the tournament was played between Chennai Super Kings vs Mumbai Indians at Newlands, Cape Town. In the first match, Mumbai Indians defeated CSK by 19 runs.

This season was hosted in South Africa instead of in the home county India as in the previous season. Deccan Chargers won this season by defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore by 6 runs in the IPL 2009 final match at The Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg.

In the final match, Royal Challengers Bangalore won the toss and elected to field first. Deccan Charges opened with Venugopal Rao and Rohit Sharma, and the first wicket went off at the team score of 0. It was Venugopal who was caught by Taylor in the Kumble’s first over.

After playing 20 overs, DC was able to set the target of 144 runs after losing 6 wickets. Herschelle Gibbs scored 53 runs in 48 balls, Andrew Symonds 33 runs in 21 balls, and Rohit Sharma 24 runs in 23 balls. These innings helped the team to reach this total.

In response, RCB was only able to reach 137 after losing 9 wickets. Roelof van der Merwe scored 32 runs in 21 balls, Ross Taylor 27 runs in 20 balls, and Robin Uthappa 17 runs in 15 balls. The poor performance by the batsman caused the RCB to lose against DC in the IPL 2009 final match.

Deccan Charges won the match by 6 runs and won their first IPL Trophy.

IPL 2010: Winner Chennai Super Kings

Chennai Super Kings is the second most successful IPL franchise which is led by legendary captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who also lead Indian National Cricket Team to win a T20 World Cup in 2007 and a 50-overs Cricket World Cup in 2011.

IPL 2010 was started on 12 March 2010, the first match was played between Deccan Chargers vs Kolkata Knight Riders at DY Patil Stadium. KKR won that match by defeating DC by 11 runs.

IPL 2010 season was won by the Chennai Super Kings, they defeated Mumbai Indians by 22 runs at DY Patil Cricket Stadium in the final match on April 25 2010. In the final match, Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to bat first, CSK opened with Srikkanth Anirudha and MS Dhoni- captain itself, CSK sat the target of 169 runs by losing 5 wickets for Mumbai Indians.

MS Dhoni scored 22 runs in 15 balls, Suresh Raina scored the most runs for the team — 57 runs in 35 balls, and Murali Vijay 26 runs in 19 balls, helping CSK to reach this total.

In response, Mumbai Indians were only able to reach 146 runs and lost 9 wickets in 20 overs. Sachin Tendulkar 48 runs in 45 balls, Abhishek Nayar 27 runs in 26 balls, and Ambati Rayudu 21 runs 14 balls.

CSK defeated Mumbai Indians by 22 runs and won their first IPL Trophy on April 25, 2010, at DY Patil Stadium.

IPL 2011: Winner Chennai Super Kings

Chennai Super Kings won their second IPL Trophy in IPL season 2011, the season was started on April 8, 2011, with the first match between CSK vs KKR where Chennai won by 2 runs at MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Chennai Super Kings met Royal Challengers Bangalore at the final match of IPL 2011 which was held at MA Chidambaram Stadium on May 28, 2011. CSK won the toss and was elected to bat first, Michael Hussey and Murali Vijay came to open from the CSK side.

In 20 overs, CSK set the target of 205 on the board after losing 5 wickets. Michael Hussey scored 63 runs in 45 balls, Murali Vijay had 95 runs in 52 balls and captain MS Dhoni had 22 runs in 13 balls.

In response, RCB was only able to reach 147 runs in 20 overs after losing 8 wickets. Virat Kohli scored 35 runs in 32 balls, Saurabh Tiwari 42 runs in 34 balls, and Zaheer Khan 21 runs in 21 balls. This poor performance caused RCB to lose the final match by 58 runs.

Chennai Super Kings won their second IPL trophy in a row by defeating RCB by 58 runs at MA Chidambaram Stadium on May 28, 2011.

IPL 2012: Winner Kolkata Knight Riders

Indian Premier League season 2012 started on April 4, 2012, with the first match between Chennai Super Kings vs Mumbai Indians at MA Chidambaram Stadium which MI won by 8 wickets.

Kolkata Knight Riders were the winner of IPL 2012, they defeated Chennai Super Kings by 5 wickets in the final match. This was the first IPL trophy won by Kolkata Knight Riders.

In the IPL 2012 Final match, CSK won the toss and elected to bat first and set the total of 190 runs after losing 3 wickets in 20 overs. Michael Hussey scored 54 runs in 43 balls, Suresh Raina 73 runs in 38 balls, and Murali Vijay 42 runs in 32 balls.

These top three innings helped Chennai to reach this big total without losing many wickets.

In response, Kolkata Knight Riders reached the target set by CSK in 19.4 overs after losing 5 wickets. Manvinder Bisla scored 89 runs in 48 balls, and Jacques Kallis 69 runs in 49 balls. These two innings helped the KKR to win the match by 5 wickets.

KKR registered their win in the IPL 2012 and lift the trophy for the first time under the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir.

IPL 2013: Winner Mumbai Indians

IPL 2013 season started with the first match between Kolkata Knight Riders vs Delhi Capitals on April 3, 2023, at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. In that first match, KKR defeated DC by 6 wickets and earned 2 points.

Mumbai Indians won the trophy in the Indian Premier League 2013 by defeating Chennai Super Kings in the final match by 23 runs at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. In the first innings, Mumbai Indians sat a total of 148 runs after losing 9 wickets on the board.

Kieron Pollard scored 60 runs in 32 balls, Ambati Rayudu 37 runs in 36 balls and Dinesh Karthik 21 runs in 26 balls. These top innings helped MI to reach the 148 runs defendable target in the final.

In response, CSK opened with Michael Hussey and Murali Vijay but they were able to reach 125 runs after losing 9 wickets. MS Dhoni played an excellent inning of 63 runs in 45 balls, and no one else was able to score 20+ and this caused CSK to lose the trophy after coming this closer.

Chennai Super Kings was defeated by 23 runs in the IPL 2023 by Mumbai Indians and MI lift their first IPL trophy.

IPL 2014: Winner Kolkata Knight Riders

Indian Premier League season 2014 started on April 16, 2023, first match was played between the Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi. In the first match, KKR won by 41 runs.

Kolkata Knight Riders was the winner of the IPL 2014 season, they won 9 matches out of 14 total matches played by the team. In the final match, KKR met KXIP at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Kings XI Punjab batted first and sat the target of 199 runs after losing 4 wickets in 20 overs.

Wriddhiman Saha scored a century in this match, he scored 115 runs not out in 55 balls and Manan Vohra 67 runs in 52 balls. Because of these two innings, KXIP was able to set that big target for the KKR.

In response, Kolkata chased 200 runs target after losing 7 wickets in 19.3 overs. Manish Pandey scored 94 runs in 50 balls, Yusuf Pathan 36 runs in 22 balls and captain Gautam Gambhir 23 runs in 17 balls. These innings helped Kolkata to register their win in the IPL 2014 season.

Kolkata Knight Riders lift their second IPL trophy by defeating KXIP by 3 wickets.

IPL 2015: Winner Mumbai Indians

IPL 2015 was won by the Mumbai Indians, the final match was played between Mumbai Indians vs Chennai Super Kings at Eden Gardens on May 24, 2015.

Chennai Super Kings won the toss and elected to field first, Mumbai’s Lendl Simmons and Parthiv Patel came to open their side. Mumbai was able to set the target of 202 runs on board after losing 5 wickets in 20 overs.

Lendl Simmons played an excellent inning and scored 68 runs in 45 balls, captain Rohit Sharma 50 runs in 26 balls, Kieron Pollard 36 runs in 18 balls and Ambati Rayudu 36 runs in 24 balls. These top-class innings helped Mumbai to set this giant total on board.

In response, CSK was only able to reach 161 runs and lost their 8 wickets in 20 overs. Dwayne Smith 57 runs in 48 balls, Suresh Raina 28 runs in 19 balls, Mohit Sharma 21 runs in 7 balls and MS Dhoni 18 runs in 13 balls.

CSK was defeated by the MI by 40 runs margin. MI lifted their 2nd IPL trophy on May 24, 2015.

IPL 2016: Winner Sunrisers Hyderbad

IPL 2016 was named to the Sunrisers Hyderabad, this season was the only season when SRH won the trophy. The team was led by David Warner, who played an unbelievable knock in the final match against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

SRH faced the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2016 final match where Sunrisers won the toss and elected to bat first and set the total of 208 runs on the board. Captain David Warner scored 69 runs in 38 balls, Yuvraj Singh 38 runs in 23 balls, Ben Cutting 39 runs in 15 balls and Shikhar Dhawan 28 runs in 25 balls.

Because of these top-class innings, SRH set the 208 runs target on the board for RCB to chase. In response, RCB came so far but couldn’t make it to victory. RCB scored 200 runs by losing 7 wickets in 20 overs.

From RCB’s side, Chris Gayle scored the most runs; 76 runs in 38 balls and then Virat Kohli 54 runs in 35 balls. But RCB failed to chase the target set by RCB on the board.

SRH registered their first Indian Premier League trophy win at Bengaluru on May 29 2016.

IPL 2017: Winner Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians again outperformed all the 7 teams premiering in the league, IPL 2017 started on 5 April 2017, and the first match was played between Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Royal Challengers Bangalore at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad.

This season was won by the Mumbai Indians, MI was on the table topper by winning 10 matches out of 14 total matches played.

Mumbai Indians met Steve Smith led-Rising Pune Supergiants, MS Dhoni was also the part of RPS team. In the final match, MI won the toss and elected to bat first. Lendl Simmons and Parthiv Patel came to open the MI side.

After playing 20 overs, Mumbai Indians were only able to set the target of 129 after losing 8 wickets. Krunal Pandya 47 runs in 38 balls and Rohit Sharma 24 runs in 22 balls. These were the two 20+ scores scored by the batsman from the MI side.

In response, RSP was able to reach 128 runs after losing 6 wickets. Ajinkya Rahane scored 44 runs in 38 balls and Steve Smith 51 runs in 50 balls.

Mumbai Indians won the match by 1 run and registered their 3rd IPL trophy.

IPL 2018: Winner Chennai Super Kings

The second most successful team of the Indian Premier League won their 3rd IPL trophy in IPL 2018. IPL season 2018 began on 7 April 2018 and the first match was played between Mumbai Indians vs Chennai Super Kings at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

CSK won 9 matches out of 14 total matches played, they stand in the second position. The team performed brilliantly throughout the season. In the IPL 2018 Final, Chennai faced the Sunrisers Hyderabad at Wankhede Stadium.

In the final, Chennai Super Kings won the toss and elected to field first. SRH was able to set the target of 178 runs after losing 6 wickets with the help of Yusuf Pathan’s 45 runs in 25 balls, Kane Williamson’s 47 runs in 36 balls and Shikar Dhawan’s 26 runs in 25 balls. These were the top three most run scorers on the SRH side.

In response, Chennai chased the target in 18.3 overs after losing 2 wickets only. Shane Watson played an outstanding knock of 117 runs in 57 balls and Suresh Raina 32 runs in 24 balls. CSK won the match by 8 wickets and bring their 3rd IPL trophy home.

IPL 2019: Winner Mumbai Indians

IPL 2019 was started on 23 March 2019, first match was between Chennai Super Kings vs Royal Challengers Bangalore at MA Chidambaram Stadium. Chennai won the first match by 7 wickets.

In the final match, Mumbai won the toss and elected to bat first. In the first inning, Mumbai sat the target of 149 for CSK to chase after losing 8 wickets in 20 overs. Kieron Pollard scored 41 runs in 25 balls, de Kock 29 runs in 17 balls and Ishan Kisan 23 runs in 26 balls.

In response, CSK failed to chase this low total at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. They were only able to reach 148 runs after losing 7 wickets in 20 overs. They got defeated by the MI by only 1 run and MI took their 4th IPL trophy.

IPL 2020 started with the first match between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, top rivalry had been seen in the first match itself. That match was won by the Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings at Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi.

Mumbai Indians were the winner of the Indian Premier League 2020, they won 9 matches out of 14 total matches. CSK had a bad season, they finished in the second-last position in the points table.

Chennai faced the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2021 final match at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on 15 October 2021.

BCCI introduced two new teams this season; Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants and who knows a new team will win the trophy… But this was exactly what happened.

Gujarat Titans won the IPL 2022 by defeating Rajasthan Royals by 7 wickets at Narendra Modi Stadium. Rajasthan Royals won the toss and Sanju Samson decided to bat first. RR sat the target of 131 runs after losing 9 wickets in 20 overs.

Jos Buttler scored 39 runs in 35 balls, Yashasvi Jaiswal 22 runs in 16 balls, and no one else crossed the 20+ individual score.

In response, GT chased the target sat by RR in 18.1 overs after losing 3 wickets. Shubhman Gill scored 45 runs in 43 balls, Hardik Pandya 34 runs in 30 balls and David Miller 32 runs in 19 balls.

Gujarat Titans successfully chased the target and won their first IPL trophy in their debut season itself.
